Our Commitment to Privacy

The Corridor is committed to protecting the privacy of its readers and subscribers. This policy explains what information is collected when you use this website or subscribe to The Corridor, how that information is used, and the rights you have in relation to it.

The Corridor does not carry advertising, does not sell subscriber data, and does not share personal information with third parties for commercial purposes. This is a structural commitment, not a preference. The publication is funded by its editorial mission alone.

Information We Collect

The Corridor website does not require registration and does not collect personally identifiable information from visitors who browse without subscribing. The following categories of data are processed in connection with website use and subscription.

Subscription data is collected and processed by Substack when you subscribe to The Corridor. This includes your email address and subscription preferences. See Section 04 for details.

Analytics data is collected in anonymised form to understand how readers engage with content. No personally identifiable information is associated with analytics data. See Section 05 for details.

Cookie data is collected as described in our Cookie Policy, which forms part of this Privacy Policy. Your cookie consent record is stored in your browser's local storage under the key corridor_cookie_consent.

Email correspondence sent to [email protected] is retained for the purpose of responding to your enquiry. It is not used for any other purpose and is not shared with third parties.

Substack and Subscription Data

The Corridor uses Substack as its newsletter and subscription platform. When you subscribe at corridorafrica.substack.com, your email address and subscription preferences are collected and processed by Substack, Inc. in accordance with Substack's Privacy Policy.

The Corridor has access to subscriber email addresses and subscription status for the purpose of understanding readership and delivering editorial content. This data is not used for advertising, profiling or any commercial purpose. It is not sold, licensed or shared with any third party.

You may unsubscribe at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email The Corridor sends. Upon unsubscription, your data is subject to Substack's data retention and deletion policies. To request deletion of your data from The Corridor's Substack account, contact [email protected].

Analytics

The Corridor uses anonymised web analytics to understand how readers engage with content. Analytics data includes page views, referral sources, time on page and geographic region at country level only. No personally identifiable information is collected or associated with analytics data.

Analytics cookies are optional. You may decline analytics cookies using the Cookie Preference Centre without any impact on your ability to read The Corridor. Legal basis for analytics processing is consent under Kenya DPA 2019 s.30(1)(a) and GDPR Art.6(1)(a).

Cookies

This website uses essential cookies required for basic functionality and, with your consent, analytics cookies to understand site usage. The Corridor does not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, remarketing tools or any cookie that identifies you personally or follows you across other websites.

Email Communications

If you subscribe to The Corridor, you will receive the weekly Monday publication by email via Substack. The Corridor does not send marketing emails, promotional content or third-party communications to subscribers. The only emails you will receive are the weekly issue and occasional editorial announcements directly relevant to The Corridor's publication schedule.

You may unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of any email. Unsubscription takes effect immediately. The Corridor does not send re-engagement emails following unsubscription.

Data Sharing

The Corridor does not sell, rent, licence or share personal data with third parties for commercial or advertising purposes under any circumstances.

The Corridor uses Substack as a data processor for newsletter delivery. Substack processes subscriber data on The Corridor's behalf in accordance with its data processing terms. The Corridor uses an analytics provider to process anonymised website data. Neither processor receives personally identifiable information beyond what is described in this policy.

The Corridor may disclose personal data if required to do so by law, court order or regulatory authority in Kenya or another applicable jurisdiction.

Data Retention

Subscriber data is held only for as long as you remain a subscriber to The Corridor via Substack. Upon unsubscription, your data is subject to Substack's retention and deletion schedule. Requests for immediate deletion of subscriber data held by The Corridor can be directed to [email protected].

Cookie consent records are stored locally in your browser for 12 months from the date of consent. They are not transmitted to The Corridor's servers. Analytics data is retained in anonymised, aggregated form for a maximum of 26 months. Email correspondence is retained for a period of 12 months from the date of last contact, after which it is permanently deleted.

International Transfers

Subscriber data processed by Substack may be transferred to and stored in the United States, where Substack, Inc. is headquartered. Such transfers are governed by Substack's standard contractual clauses and data transfer mechanisms in compliance with applicable data protection law. Anonymised analytics data may similarly be processed outside Kenya. The Corridor does not make any direct international transfers of personally identifiable data.

Changes to This Policy

The Corridor may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our data practices or applicable law. The date of the most recent update and the current version number are displayed at the top of this page. Where changes are material, active subscribers will be notified by email before the revised policy takes effect.
